Radiation Level Outside Damaged Japan Reactor May Cause Death Within Hours

Radiation levels that can prove fatal were detected outside reactor buildings at Japan’s Fukushima Dai-Ichi plant for the first time, complicating efforts to contain the worst disaster since Chernobyl in 1986.

Water in an underground trench outside the No. 2 reactor had levels exceeding 1 sievert an hour, a spokesman for plant operator Tokyo Electric Power Co. told reporters in the capital yesterday. Exposure to that dose for 30 minutes would trigger nausea and four hours might lead to death within two months, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Preventing the most-contaminated water from leaking into the ground or air is key to containing the spread of radiation beyond the plant. A partial meltdown of fuel rods in the No. 2 reactor probably caused a jump in the readings, Japan’s chief government spokesman said.

“There’s not much good news right now,” said Gennady Pshakin, a former IAEA official based in Obninsk, the site of Russia’s first nuclear power plant. “There’re questions arising on how much fuel will leak out, what isotopes will be carried and how quickly they will settle. It’s becoming less predictable.”

A magnitude-9 earthquake and ensuing tsunami on March 11 knocked out power at the plant, disabling its cooling systems and forcing Tokyo Electric to dump thousands of tons of sea water on the complex as a stopgap measure. Damage to reactor buildings, including a possible breach in the No. 2 unit’s containment vessel, has made it harder for workers to get close enough to fix the equipment without risking their health.

Power Outages

The number of dead and missing from the earthquake and tsunami had reached 28,343 as of 9 p.m. yesterday. About 200,000 households in northeast Japan remain without power and more than 350,000 have no gas, the government said. There are 242,882 refugees living in 2,045 shelters, the National Police Agency said. Thousands of temporary pre-fabricated homes are being built in Miyagi, Iwate and Fukushima prefectures.

Residents evacuated from a 20-kilometer (12-mile) radius of the Fukushima Dai-Ichi plant shouldn’t return home, Chief Cabinet Secretary Yukio Edano said. Some people had gone back to pick up belongings, he said.

Elevated radiation levels have been detected in crops grown near the stricken plant as well as the water supply in Tokyo, 220 kilometers to the south, and other regions. This has triggered bulk-buying of bottled water at supermarkets that have been forced to restrict purchases.

Some Success

Ever-higher radiation emissions at Dai-Ichi and evidence water has leaked out of the No. 2 reactor’s containment vessel are undermining success at restoring lighting to control rooms and injecting fresh water into the reactor pressure vessels to keep temperatures from rising.

“The high radiation levels seem to have come from fuel rods that partially melted down and came into contact with water used to cool the reactor,” Edano said at a briefing in Tokyo, citing a draft report from the nuclear safety commission. “It’s very regrettable, but we’re trying to contain the whole situation while preventing the health impact from spreading.”

Shares of Tepco, as the utility is known, slumped 18 percent to 696 yen on the Tokyo Stock Exchange yesterday, the lowest close since February 1977.

Soil near the Fukushima plant tested positive for plutonium contamination, Tepco said. The radioactive metal was part of the fuel mix in reactor No. 3 and its presence outside the plant would suggest those fuel rods were also exposed. The amount found shouldn’t be enough to affect human health, Tepco Vice President Sakae Muto said at a press conference shown on a webcast yesterday.

Tepco said it needs to drain water lying in four reactor turbine buildings to determine where it came from and assess damage to the fuel rods. Water in the No. 2 turbine building is as high as 1 meter (3.2 feet) deep, a company official told reporters yesterday.

Well written article by Shelley Penney of Canada on her experiences with zeolite.

Radiation Protection and Zeolite

Can a little known porous crystal help you in a nuclear crisis?

A unique crystalline substance, pretty much unknown outside of scientific circles, and niche interest
groups, could see a gain in popularity as nuclear fall out or radiation sickness becomes a concern. This
substance, known as zeolite, has some unique properties that make it a viable aid in ridding the body of
radiation once exposed.

Zeolites are naturally formed volcanic minerals with some very unique characteristics. They have a
honeycomb-like framework of cavities and channels (often referred to as cages). The zeolite is one of
the few negatively charged minerals in nature. These molecules behave like magnets, drawing heavy
metals and radioactive particles to them, capturing them inside a molecular cage.

There are around 45 naturally occurring zeolites and over 100 man-made zeolites. There are three
different classes of zeolites with varying molecular chemical structures:

• Chain‐like structures whose minerals form acicular, or needle‐like, prismatic crystals ‐ as found
in asbestos.
• Framework structures where the crystals are more equal in dimensions ‐ as found in chabazite.
• Sheet‐like structures where the crystals are flattened ‐ as found in clinoptilolite.

Zeolites have been used in practice in many industrial applications in the past, and more recently as a
dietary supplement to to it’s extraordinary ability for trapping, heavy metals and toxins.
The actual Clinoptilolite Zeolite molecule is shaped like a honey-comb and carries a natural negative
(-) charge. When this type of Zeolite is ingested into the body all of the positively charged (+) heavy
metals, toxins, and harmful chemicals bond with the zeolite and are flushed out through the urine
within 6-8 hours.

How does this translate into something practicle when faced with a potential nuclear fallout?
The zeolite molecules, acting like a magnet with a negative charge, grab on to the radioactive particles
which have a positive charge. This means that if you have ingested or absorbed radioactive particles,
the zeolite can be ingested and potentially find and grab on to those particles and remove them safely
through excretion.

Has zeolite been used effectively? Absolutely, zeolite has been scattered on radioactive spills to aid in
clean up, and zeolite has been given to people orally to help internally. In fact, during the aftermath of
the most famous nuclear disaster of all time at Chernobyl, zeolite was given to children and adults who
had been exposed to radioactive particulate.

There are a number of zeolite products for ingestion available on the market in powder, capsule and
suspension form. Although I have my preference, and have the knowledge and resources to have
planned ahead, that may not be the case in crisis.

If you are reading this and you have time to plan, then do your research on liquid zeolite to make sure
you are getting the best product available. If you do not have any time, then scour natural food or
health stores, or head online to order any and as much zeolite dietary supplement as you can. Using
zeolite along with iodine could very well mean the difference between sickness and relative health, for
people who survive a nuclear accident.

Hey folks.

There is alot of concern about the fallout reaching the United States and Canada (mostly British Columbia area), and there should be concern.

One thing I’ve learned is never trust officials. Because it is usually officially bullshit. Another is propagandist will tell you both sides of the story in the same sentence and end it with everything is fine, because as a human that is the last you hear.

Reactors are fine, high levels of rads and nuclear fallout, but nothing to be worried about as it is contained. First of all you can not contain fallout, fallout means that is nuclear steam or ash/radiation is in the sky and possibly could hit a jetstream.  Any type of high levels of rads / radiation will cause cancer or kill you. It is never okay.

It is like the old “peace and security” “feel safe”, then a war breaks out.

So I wanted to post this to give some…well, tips to be prepared. See I post this not to be a fear monger or to scare the living hell out of you, but to possibly prepare. Even if it helps ONE person.

Radiation will come to the USA and Canada. Radiation levels are unknown. The situation (or SITREP) is unknown in Japan and by the time anyone finds out is too late. SO PREP PREP PREP.

Alot of buzz about Potassium Iodide. One thing I’ve also notice is that consumers are getting things confused as well. You want to buy Potassium Iodide, not Iodine. Table salt is not going to help you.

Once again no ones if the rads will be harmful or deadly until it happens so this is just advice.

One thing you want to do is speak with a doctor or your doctor about Iodide. It can have an effect on your thyroid. There are people out with thyroid diseases or issues. Last thing you want is to prepare and then cause a medical concern due to thyroids.  But the best, I believe, alternative and really primary prep is seaweed.

Seaweed food and Brown Rice. Add to that the miso soup. Microbiotics came out during the Nagasaki and Hiroshima bombings. Long story short, patients in hospital were trapped due to bombings of World War II. The only thing they had to eat were forms of Brown Seaweed, Brown Rice and Miso soup. After studying these individuals after this atrocious ordeal, they checked out in good condition compared to all those who were “burnt” on the inside due to the rads.

Run a search on Brown Seaweed. Pills are good for fast intake, but brown seaweed and brown rice which are both boiled and ingested is the best. If you decide to get some pills, break the capsules into a glass of water and take for faster blood soak. Don’t wait for the capsule to break down.
